Our annual ‘Who do we think we are?’ event for staff and students takes place this year from 14 June to 6 July 2022. The event, led by Academic Support, explores the culture and politics of studying and learning at UAL.

This month-long event includes workshops and presentations, online materials and discussion spaces on this year's themes of learning and identity and learning and wellbeing.

Exploring inclusive crits

Tue 14 June | 3 – 4pm | Chelsea College of Arts

Crits are widely regarded as a fundamental teaching and feedback method of arts education. While many students find these formative experiences to be positive, others can find them challenging or harmful. We’ll explore the findings of Arts SU’s research on crits and look at how we can renew the purpose of crits in line with inclusive learning practices.

A speculative space for thinking through questions or to work on a problem such as an unfinished project. Drop-in to this relaxing activity to draw and explore!

Supporting student mental health through inclusive practices

21 June | 10.30 – 12pm | Online

A webinar exploring the relationship between student wellbeing, inclusion, and the social model of disability. We’ll discuss aspects of university life which may impact student mental health and how barriers can be minimised or removed, focusing on inclusive practices.

Simon Adams and Stephen Elmes (UAL Language Centre) will co-present on their work to help students adapt to life in an increasingly multicultural, diverse and inclusive setting.

A celebration of language

Students from this year’s Language-Art Project will co-host a discussion about language from an artistic perspective, with presentations followed with an exploration of the relationship between language, creativity, learning, perceiving and our sense of identity.

How can we support and design for different student situations and experiences? How could flexible approaches holistically integrate pedagogy and student experience? This workshop invites you to visualise and question the way we see, model and connect online learning with students’ lived experiences.
