It’s easy to forget some of the do’s and don’ts when it comes to getting in and around our buildings. So, here’s a quick one stop shop with everything you need to know.
Getting into our buildings – students and visitors
You need to have your ID card with you to get into any of our buildings, and you should make sure that it’s visible when you’re on-site. This helps us keep you safe and protects your belongings from theft. It's also really important hat you never share your ID card with anyone else.
If you forget your ID card speak to the reception/information centre and they’ll be able to confirm who you are and print you a temporary replacement – but this won’t get you through any secure doors.
Most sites welcome visitors and members of the public for exhibitions, but if you want to bring someone onsite (to help with work preparations for example) you’ll need to let your lecturer/tutor know and make sure that reception/information centre is aware.
You can check the opening times of each site, including the library, by visiting the relevant college page on arts.ac.uk.
What to do in an emergency
Now might be a good time to remind yourself of what to do in the event of a fire or evacuation. You can check the procedure for your site – and others that you might be visiting here.

We do not walk by
At UAL we work and study in an environment where nobody walks by. This means that if you see something that’s not right, you should try your best to sort it out – providing it’s safe to do so. This could mean anything from moving a broken chair so no one sits on it to letting one of the facilities team know about a leak or a spill. We all have a role to play in keeping each other safe.

Waste and recycling
We have a two-stream recycling process. That might sound a little complicated but it’s actually really simple – it just means that we have one bin for mixed recycling and one bin for general waste.
Glass should be put in the red general waste bin unless prompted to put it in glass specific bins (at a limited number of sites and at events).
