At London College of Fashion, UAL our classrooms are equipped with Solstice, a collaboration platform allowing multiple users to wirelessly share content. Using your own device, students can wirelessly share content to the room display.

  • Great for learning spaces supporting blended learning, and active learning models
  • Allows moderation for lecturers to control and require approval of student posts
  • Eliminates high-contact touch points such as room consoles and delivers large room collaboration, even to multiple screens in the space
  • Promotes student engagement through BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) collaboration, with flexibility of device choice

The Solstice app can be installed on Windows, MacOS, Android, and iOS devices (such as laptops, tablets, and phones) to connect and share media to the Solstice display. Read this Introduction to Solstice which will help you to install and setup the Solstice App on UAL managed devices and/or personal devices.

Solstice for students

LCF’s Technical Resources team have created Solstice user guides with the Room AV to support your learning.

You will find informational signage, notifying you which rooms are equipped with Solstice, placed around LCF’s campuses.

There are various ways you can use Solstice.

  • Moderator mode: allows lecturers to approve requests from students/collaborators to join the session or post content to the display. Once moderator mode is enabled, a session moderator must approve future requests for users to join the session or for new content to be posted, and only a moderator can control content layout.
  • Layout: there are multiple ways to control shared content to a Solstice display and how it appears on the display in the Layout tab of the Solstice app. Any user connected to the session can control the content layout.
  • Solstice Ink Annotation: available in the mobile version of the Solstice app (iOS and Android), Solstice Ink allows users to highlight and temporarily mark up content on the Solstice display from anywhere in the room by simply pointing and drawing with their smartphones. This feature is also supported in moderator mode, but it is not supported on tablets.

Visit the LCF Technical Resources SharePoint for more information on Solstice.
