If you are planning to be on any of our sites on Sunday 26 November, these are some of the things that you need to know.

As part of the process of improving our network, we need complete significant reconfiguration work and restart it, much like when you restart your computer for an upgrade to kick in. During this time, there will be no internet access across our sites, so if you’re on campus on this day, it is likely that you will experience some disruption to your internet access as we carry out this work. Please ensure you save work regularly and have a backup offline in case of disruption.

When is the work happening?

It will happen on Sunday 26 November. We have done our best to keep the disruption to a minimum, but due to the complexity of our network we cannot guarantee fixed times to start and finish the work at each location throughout the day. The safest option is to assume that there might be disruption throughout the day.

Which sites are affected?

All UAL sites will be affected, except for East Bank.

Will halls be affected?

Portland House, Gardens House and Archwood House should be the least affected of all our sites. Your internet connection might experience short interruptions, but it is unlikely that you will be without any service at all. Other halls will not be affected.

Can I go to the East Bank campus if I’m not an East Bank student?

No, East Bank is currently open for East Bank students only. The best option if you need to access Wi-Fi on the day is to arrange an alternative place of work.

How does this affect me?

If you are on campus on Sunday 26 November, there will be no access to Wi-Fi, internet, printers, files, etc. You will not be able to log into computers. In some cases, you might also experience issues using your ID card to get in and out of campus.

If you're based in Portland House, Gardens House or Archwood House, your internet connection might experience short interruptions, but it is unlikely that you will be without any service at all.

Will I be able to look-up resources or use the photocopiers in the libraries?

The libraries will be open, but you will not be able to log into library computers or use the printers. You can still borrow and return items and use your mobile device to look-up or books on Library search. E-library resources are still available from home and via devices with their own data.

The log in system for the photocopiers will be down during the works, so you will not be able to log in to the photocopier to either photocopy or scan documents.
