Earth Day takes place each year on 22 April and this year, join us for a week-long series of events across UAL showcasing creative environmental action from across our community.

What is Earth Day?

Earth Day is an annual global event held on 22 April to demonstrate support for and celebrate the environmental movement and to raise awareness of the escalating need to protect Earth’s natural resources for future generations. Earth Day was founded in 1970 on the belief that all people, regardless of race, gender, income, or geography, have a moral right to a healthy, sustainable environment.

How can I celebrate Earth Day at UAL?

For the 4th year in a row, the Climate Emergency Network (CEN) has put together an exciting programme of activity to mark Earth Day and Earth Week. This year's theme, 'More-Than-Human Stories: New Myths in the Making' emphasises the power of the stories we tell over our values, cultures and lives. From collaborating with mosses and bacteria, to reconnecting to ancient knowledge through walking in nature, to engaging in an imagined interspecies assembly, there’s something for everyone to get involved in. Explore the full programme of nearly 50 events.

Showcasing our community's creativity this Earth Day

Explore our latest UAL Showcase collection 'Regenerative Futures’, curated by founder and Director of CIVIC SQUARE, Imandeep Kaur, Neighbourhood Public Square Researcher, Writer and Organiser Emily Churchill Zaraa and Doughnut Economics Researcher Catriona Rawthorne. The projects in this special Earth Day collection manifest new possibilities for our planet by dreaming and by doing.

Celebrating Earth Day through food

Our brilliant catering staff are serving up some extra-special sustainable goodies across UAL.

At our cafés located at CSM, LCC and LCF, you can enjoy homemade brownies baked with Wildfarmed regenerative flour - a small but mighty step toward supporting better farming practices.

To celebrate the 55th anniversary of Earth Day, the salad bars across all UAL sites will be serving up 55Vietnamese-style summer rolls, wrapped in edible flowers for a colourful, eco-friendly twist.

Finally, all canteens will be offering delicious plant-based options throughout the week.
