Join us for Flourish at CSM: a student, staff and industry open day focusing on the Diploma in Professional Studies (DPS) industry placement year.
Wednesday 19 April 2023, The Street and Platform Bar
What is DPS?
The Diploma in Professional Studies (DPS) gives you the option of developing your knowledge and skills through placements and industry experience. If you take the Diploma, placements happen in Year 3 as part of an extended 4-year degree.
We want all our students to experience connection, inclusivity and growth at Central Saint Martins. A DPS year builds on this sense of belonging and community and gives you additional practical tools and experience to become change agents and informed practitioners in your subject. As a DPS student, you can be placed within an employer company for up to a year, working with them over a full product cycle or large-scale project.
A high number of CSM DPS placements go on to result in graduate hires. This means DPS is not only a way to get solid industry experience in your field while you study - it could also introduce you to your graduate employer.
Over 1000 Central Saint Martins students across fashion, textiles, jewellery, fine art, ceramics and product design go into worldwide placements every year.
Why attend?
The day is a collaboration between DPS coordinators in four programme teams at CSM: Product, Ceramic and Industrial Design, Fashion, Jewellery, Textiles and Materials and Fine Art, with support from other teams.
If you’re interested in exploring the DPS option, or you just want to know more about placements and industry partnerships at Central Saint Martins, this is a great chance to find out more and talk to staff, employers, alumni and other students to help you understand the ins and outs.
Together with an exhibition of work from DPS students, we’ll have a range of talks and seminars discussing the value of student skills in industry and employer good practice, including fair pay and conditions for students on placement.
We’ll be welcoming a wide range of audiences including DPS partner employers, local organisations in the King’s Cross Knowledge Quarter, our Business and Innovation network, alumni, curriculum staff and students.
You can find out about the support available to guide you through your DPS journey – and what alternatives are available if DPS is not for you – with advisors on hand from Careers & Employability, Finance and Student Services,
And you can explore work created by students during their placement year in live contexts such as studios and galleries, and on collaborative projects in both the UK and abroad.
