A CSM Foundation student Knowledge Exchange project with Universal Pictures, selecting four students' designs based on new spy movie Argylle to be worn at the red carpet premiere on 24 January.
The Argylle of the film's title reflects the argylle pattern woven throughout the film in clothing, accessories, props and sets. Students were encouraged to develop ideas that use and are inspired by argylle and the visual style of the film, taking the pattern and iconography and creating an outfit fit for the red carpet..

Through their research, they were asked to be inspired by the characters, the trailer and the iconic argylle iconography, producing a mood board with initial samples and design development ideas.
Overseen by FAD project team Jo Simpson, Oonagh O’Hagan and Yvette Blundell, the students' outputs included sketchbooks showing research, development work exploring ideas and an experimentation with materials and 2D and 3D samples / sampling.
The final four selected garments were by students Carson Bishop, Lucas Rathbone, Lottie May Chainey and Bysshe, who dressed influencers Tyreece, Zainab Jiwa, Charlotte Roberts and Jack Edwards for their outing at the world premiere, alongside the film's cast, including Samuel L. Jackson, Henry Cavill, Dua Lipa, John Cena - and Claudia Schiffer's cat, Chip.
The designs were produced in collaboration with pattern cutter Amy Addison and Foundation Lecturer Christopher Kelly, to realise them into wearable garments.
Learning how to design from a different source and aesthetic within different industries is becoming more and more relevant. As objects, textures, and garments are seen or even experienced on small and big screens, the skills to be able to interpret creative fields such as music and film into new objects and disciplines open up exciting new opportunities.
