The Counselling, Health Advice, and Chaplaincy team at UAL offers a weekly support group for bereaved students.
We understand that experiencing a bereavement can make you feel isolated, especially if your friends haven't gone through something similar. Many people find it hard to talk about death and grief, which are sensitive topics. Some students worry about burdening others with their feelings.
What to Expect
Grief can bring a wide range of emotions, including anger, sadness, depression, shock, and denial. Everyone’s experience of grief is unique. Our Bereavement Support Group provides a safe, supportive, and confidential space to talk about your experiences. Group members often find it helpful to hear how others are coping. You can share at your own pace, without any pressure and everything discussed remains confidential.
Facilitators
The group is facilitated by a UAL counsellor and chaplain, both of whom have extensive experience supporting people through grief. Established 2 years ago, our group has grown in understanding students' experiences of death and grief. We aim to bring a compassionate and supportive approach to help you during this difficult time.
How to Join
If you’re interested in joining the group, please email counselling@arts.ac.uk or sign up via Eventbrite. We will invite you to an initial conversation with one of the group facilitators to understand your situation and discuss whether the group will be helpful for you. We recommend waiting at least 6 months after a bereavement before considering joining the group.
