Did you know that applications are open for students to join the Halls Student Committee from September 2024?

Meet Alina, one of our Halls Student Committee members

We caught up with Alina who works as the Event Lead at Archwood House, to find out what it’s like working as a committee member, and why she would recommend it to returning or new students.

When did you join the Halls Committee and what initially motivated you to apply to be part of the Halls Committee?

I joined the Halls  Committee in August, I was motivated by the opportunity to meet new people, network and the chance to try myself as an organiser. I also needed a part-time job after moving due to the high cost of living in London.

In your role on the committee, what are some of the activities you’ve participated in throughout the academic year?

We've had a lot of events this year! My favourites are definitely the cooking and painting workshops. I was also involved in running the open day and welcoming students at the start of the year.

How do you find a balance between your studies and the responsibilities that come with being a committee member?

That's a good question! We only organise up to two events a week, which allows plenty of time for studying and social life. And time management helps me a lot!

From your experience, what are some of the benefits and skills you have gained from being on the Halls Committee?

This job definitely helped me to socialise! It is not easy to find friends after moving, but during the events I met many students with different backgrounds, interests and ideas. In addition, another benefit was the opportunity to participate in day trips for free. I have also developed organisation, time management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. I’ve also become more extroverted.

Why would you recommend new or returning students to apply to be on the Halls Committee from September 2024?

This is a great opportunity to combine work and study. It also involves working in a friendly, non-toxic team of creative people. This environment encourages you to grow.

Deadline for submitting your application is Monday 27 May.
