“THROUGH ONE ANOTHER WE CAN DISCOVER. IN A TEAM WE CAN SHARE OUR UNIQUENESS. WE CAN SPECIALIZE AND THRIVE AS AN INDIVIDUAL, YET INSPIRE AND INFORM A BIGGER, MORE PROGRESSIVE PICTURE. TOGETHER WE CREATE SOMETHING, SOMETHING STRONGER. WHO ARE WE AND WHERE ARE WE, WITHOUT OTHERS?”

INTRO / BACKGROUND

Each year London College of Fashion, UAL offers a variety of diverse opportunities for graduating final year students. The main event of the year for our undergraduate courses is the #LCF20: Degree Show which includes live shows, exhibitions, social media engagement, careers support and workshops. The full listing of showcasing opportunities for the #LCF20: Degree Show will be released at the end of December 2019.

LCF2020 FASHION FUTURE SPACE

One aspect of the #LCF20: Degree Show will be The 2020 Fashion Future Space, a one-off showcase that will feature twenty of the most innovative, dynamic and forward thinking fashion projects from the School of Design Technology. The space will only feature work that has been created collaboratively. Participating students will be connected to like-minded creatives in different design fields such as graphics, film and photography in order to collectively create the total vision. Collectively you will form solid partnerships, guided and mentored by industry towards creating a final project. The outcomes of each collaboration will form the content of the 2020 FASHION FUTURE SPACE.

HOW CAN YOU TAKE PART?

What’s new about what you do and how does your final major project make a unique contribution to fashion? Is it a new idea for fashion business, design or manufacture? Or are you focused on a new consumer or demographic? Or maybe your work is focused around sustainability and diversity, making a statement or even presenting a new ideology? If you answer ‘yes’ to any of the above, the LCF2020 FASHION FUTURE SPACE will be your opportunity to present your work as part of the #LCF20: Degree Show.

2020 FASHION FUTURE SPACE LOOK + FEEL

The look and feel of the space will be negotiated between Creative Director Rob Phillips, participating students and staff, internal and external collaborators and the LCF Events and Comms Teams. The space will heavily depend on the work that is featured. For example, the space may include a catwalk, film installations, an immersive talk or performance Invitees will include media (digital and print), industry (across the board), sponsors, investors and stakeholders.

HOW DOES THE PROCESS WORK

Attend the #LCF2020 : FUTURE SPACE Briefing on Tuesday 3 December 2019, 5pm - 6pm at High Holborn in Room G05, just inside the Blueprint Cafe.

01. Interested final year students must either be in a collaboration, able to form a collaboration, or potentially be introduced to others to co-create. Advice on how to connect to others can be found on page number 00 There are many forms of collaboration that you, together with a team can devise. If you need advice then attend the 2020 Future Space briefing (details below) or get in touch with Creative Director Rob Phillips r.phillips@fashion.arts.ac.uk.

02. Once you have formed a group you should then collectively devise a written (portfolio) or verbal (film) manifesto for your project. This needs to be as imaginative and authentic as possible. Together with visuals, your manifesto should form a small submission package (manifesto portfolio) with as much information, raw research and ideas as possible. We expect your first ideas to be quite abstract at this early stage but hope this will kick start your thoughts and begin your design process. Please note, that while your ideas will be in their early stages, they must be considered and achievable. So, start by thinking big and the refine your ideas before you present the manifesto portfolio.

03. After the manifesto portfolio review the selected twenty project participants will: - Have the opportunity to meet students from other UAL courses. On confirmation of individual course participation, a list of these courses will appear below and communicated to you. - Be teamed up with students at UAL: London College of Communication on the MA Graphic Branding and Identity course who will work with you on typography, graphics, moving image and the look and feel of your project. All participating, collaborating students from the above colleges and courses will make a specialist, focused contribution to the total project vision. You will respect one another’s work, learn from one another’s practice and form professional relationships to produce a body of work that when presented at the 2020 Fashion Future Space at the #LCF20: Degree Show, will give the audience an amazing experience of your fashion vision’.
