We are pleased to share the results of our latest Gender Pay Gap report – which once again secured University of the Arts London’s (UAL) position as a sector-leading employer for gender pay.

The report confirmed that our gender pay gap is currently 3%, which is significantly lower than the average pay gap for the higher education sector – currently at 14.7%. When comparing median hourly pay, women at UAL earn 97p for every £1 that men earn.

UAL is committed to creating a fairer and more inclusive workplace – and a university that works for everyone. Last year, we launched our sector-leading equal parental pay policy that offers an equal package to staff irrespective of gender, sexual orientation or how people become parents. In 2021, we gained an accreditation as an official Living Wage Employer.

As an institution, social purpose is at the heart of our strategy and we seek to pioneer changes that can help solve societies problems. Having a low gender pay gap signifies UAL’s commitment to challenge gender inequality – and we hope that this will inspire other organisations to follow suit.

"It's fantastic news that UAL is continuing to lead the sector in terms of gender pay. We know that ongoing system inequality is the root cause of the gender pay gap. That's just one reason why we need to contribute to creating a fairer society - one in which gender no longer determines your earning potential."

Naina Patel, Chief People Officer at UAL
