Each year Chelsea’s Graduate Diploma Interior Design students are given a location to propose new and exciting concepts for. This year they focused on Concorde 2, a historic building on Brighton’s Madeira Terrace.
Here we look at a range of concepts for the project shared on the UAL Graduate Showcase.
Claire Tang created a multi-purpose space for co-working and families
"The concept of WORKHERE is to provide customers with a natural space where they can work whilst also forgetting about the pressures of daily life. Their children can also use the space to play and study in a natural environment."
Daohan Huang works with sonic experience
"I created an immersive sonic sound space. Customers can relax in the bar with beers before heading into the sound installation - a wooden frame structure with a trapezoidal form of multi-screen film enveloped within it. Sonic visualisations are projected on the screen to boost the atmosphere. There is also a viewing platform that gets the best overview of the entire warehouse in 360 degrees."
Stella Tseng created a perfume shop
"I’m interested in exploring the relationship between the sense of smell and how can they interact with spaces. After analysing the perfume distilling process, I was inspired to use the shape of air bubbles and odorant molecules within my work. I wanted to create an environment that encouraged customers to discover the fun of creating their own fragrances."
Xinjie Li created a felting workshop and cafe
"I researched the relationship between space and people’s activities. All the organic shapes I designed for this space were transformed and created from sheep’s wool, which is the main material used in needle felting activities. I chose a very effective way to attract people, using just one material with a single colour."
Xintong Li created a space using recycled products
"Contemporary space design should be enlightened by the lifestyle and technology development at present, as well as encouraging people's curiosity in exploring space spontaneously. The main method of designing for both business and space is raising people's concern of the use of plastic materials and other recyclable matter."
Kseniya Silant’eva created a Sock Café
"My project is a combination of a café and a workshop, where people can eat, drink high quality coffee, design socks and attend community knitting workshops. The café is also child friendly with interactive displays and craft tables."
