This evening Chelsea College of Arts will welcome illustrators Lucinda Rogers and Olivier Kugler to talk about their work as part of Draw the Truth, an event looking at reportage illustration that will also see curators Isabelle Bricknall and Olivia Ahmad discuss the legacy of the late Jo Brocklehurst, followed by a panel discussion with Prof. Neil Cummings.
The event is a collaboration between Eye magazine, the AOI (Association of Illustrators) and Chelsea and aims to have resonance and meaning for everyone involved in illustration, journalism, graphic design, art direction, advertising and education.

Jo Brocklehurst, who died aged 70 in 2006, was an artist who is best known for her work depicting the vibrant European club scene in the 1980s. Several of her works from this period, particularly of punks, are now held in the V&A collection. Drawn from life in the clubs and parties she attended, her drawings from this period not only provide a fascinating female perspective on the punk scene, but a unique record of the subculture.
Illustrators Lucinda Roger and Olivier Kugler work via similar processes, drawing from life directly to create work which conveys spontaneity whether capturing the changing face of London or the plight of Syrian refugees on Kos.
They will be joined by Olivia Ahmad, curator at the House of Illustration, and artist Isabelle Bricknall who recently curated an exhibition of Brockleyhurst’s work there, and Neil Cummings, Professor of Practice and Theory of Fine Art at the Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon Graduate School and whose multidisciplinary art practice often requires an intense period of research within the specific contexts in which art is produced, distributed and encounters its audiences.
