Students and alumni

These guidelines should be used by staff to advise students and alumni on how and when to state our brand’s involvement in their activity.
Please note: If they have been commissioned by us via UAL Arts Temps, it's safe for them to use our brand, in which case the following guidelines don’t apply.
Creative projects
- Don't share brand assets, such as our logos or templates, with our students or alumni unless their work or activity is funded by UAL.
Degree shows
Print and digital
- Always follow our logo guidance on assets for our Degree shows, as they are a core University activity.
- Include the College logo on the front, back or inside cover of any leaflets, pamphlets, books, etc.
- Include the UAL brand narrative or College messaging to establish context.
Websites
If students create a website for their Degree show, they should:
- Use their College logo in the right-hand corner of the header or the footer.
- Include their College’s messaging or information about their course on the website to establish context.
Social media
- Students and alumni should not use our logos on social media but are welcome to refer to UAL or their College in text.
- Social media accounts connected to our Shows, events or courses should state their connection to UAL or College by tagging us in their bio.
Exhibitions and events
- If students or alumni are arranging an event, exhibition or show independent of official UAL programmes, they should not use the UAL or College brand.
- For exhibitions or events taking place at a UAL venue or in connection with their course, they should include the following disclaimer:
"This is an independent event organised by Name/s or Group Name, students/alumni at College Name. All event content and views expressed are our own and not endorsed by College Name or University of the Arts London."
- If their activity is organised as part of their societies or sports clubs, they should follow our event criteria in the Arts SU sports clubs and societies guidelines.
Publications
- Independent student publications or in relation to their course are free to develop their own name, brand voice and identity, separate from UAL or a College.
Examples: Artefact Magazine, 1 Granary, ColouringCritique.
- These publications are freestanding within our brand architecture and shouldn’t use the UAL or College brand.
Sponsorships
- Students and alumni should not use our UAL or College brand if they approach industry or external organisations privately.
- If they’re applying for sponsorships or project support for work developed in connection with the University or one of our Colleges, they can use our logos and branded templates.
