Chelsea College of Arts.

  • Don't use ‘the’ as a prefix in front of our name.
  • Make the College’s relationship to UAL clear. Though, don't use UAL as a possessive.
    • Example: Chelsea College of Arts, UAL, is part of a new exhibition.
  • Externally, use the abbreviation 'Chelsea' once you’ve established its meaning by using our full name.
    • Example: Chelsea College of Arts (Chelsea) offers courses in curating, fine art, graphic design communication, textile design and interior and spatial design. Chelsea's facilities embrace both traditional craftsmanship and digital technology.

Brand narrative

Our brand idea has been developed to outline what we stand for and should underpin everything we do:

Interrogating globalisation and international perspectives through art and design practice.

We’re proud to have a worldwide reputation for producing some of today’s leading artists and designers. We challenge our students to be at the forefront of their practice, to develop new global networks and to drive forward innovative cross-cultural solutions to world-wide issues. We challenge established ideas of art and design in a global context, and explore the social, cultural, political and the effects of globalisation in our work.

What we do

Chelsea College of Arts, UAL, is one of London’s most prestigious art and design colleges. We provide students with a stimulating space and supportive atmosphere to test ideas and break new creative ground. Our teaching focuses on material-based investigation and creative process. Our students are encouraged to radically engage with contemporary fine art and design practice in a global context to challenge traditional ideas of the role of artists and designers. We inspire our graduates to apply their practice to the social, cultural, political and the effects of globalisation. We are based in a Grade II listed building alongside the River Thames and Tate Britain in Central London. Our presence in London offers a stage for creating international professional networks and driving forward innovative, cross-cultural solutions.

Using our brand narrative

Sometimes you may need to shorten the narrative to tailor it to the needs of your audience or to adhere to specific word count.

Example — one sentence:

An international hub exploring global perspectives in art and design.

Example — one paragraph:

Chelsea College of Arts, UAL, is one of London’s most prestigious art and design colleges. We’re proud to have a worldwide reputation for producing some of the leading artists and designers of the day. We are focused on inspiring our graduates to apply their practice to the social, cultural and political effects of globalisation. We provide students with a stimulating space and supportive atmosphere, so that you can test ideas and break new creative ground

With the UAL brand narrative

There may be times when you have to reference Chelsea alongside the wider University:

  • Prioritise language which describes Chelsea, supported by extracts from the UAL brand narrative and messaging pillars to bring clarity to the connection to the University brand.
  • Avoid duplication of language between narratives as this can become confusing for audiences.

Imagery

Imagery is a key part of our brand. So it's important that the imagery we use showcases the best of what we do at Chelsea:

  • the work of our students from across the College's schools and courses
  • our diverse community of students, alumni and staff
  • our state-of-the-art facilities
  • our part in the community of Pimlico.

We also need to make sure that all imagery includes the correct copyright information and is credited in line with our crediting guidelines.
