LCF Postgraduate Class of 2026: Curation Workshop, Wrestling the Archive

MA Fashion Curation and Cultural Programming graduate Betty Swaffield shares insights from her final major project, 'Wrestling the Archive: On Curating Domestic Costume Craft and the Stories Behind the Sequins', in this informal, interactive session.

Betty’s research explores the weird and wonderful costume culture of British wrestling’s ‘golden age’ in the 1970s and 1980s and the often hidden domestic labour and personal stories behind its spectacular alter egos.

Discover how wrestling personas and costumes were devised, then design your own by drawing or stitching onto a patch. Through making, conversation, and playful experimentation, the workshop considers craft as embodied research and invites you to think about whose stories costumes can tell.

All materials are provided and no experience is necessary. Just bring yourself, drop by for as little or as long as you like and bring a bit of glitz to your Thursday.

The workshop will be taking place in our state-of-the-art home at East Bank and will take place from 12-2pm and 5-6:30pm on a drop-in basis on Thursday 29 October.
