Biography

Alex Devereux is an artist, sculptor and Specialist Prototyping Technician at the Creative Computing Institute. He set up and now runs the Prototyping Lab — a dedicated making space equipped with cutting-edge tools (he’s something of a Festool fan). Drawing on his background in engineering, craft, and large-scale problem-solving, Alex helps students turn their ideas into reality through hands-on experimentation and thinking-through-making.

He has over a decade of experience within UAL, alongside collaborations with external galleries and leadership on major student projects. With a foundation as a Scenic Artist, Alex has delivered fabrication and installation for major theatre productions worldwide, from intimate touring sets to large-scale builds on cruise ships and the West End.

Through his collaborative practice Alex and Emma Devereux, he works on ambitious large-scale sculpture and land art projects that often draw on industrial history and the infrastructures that shaped modern life. Their work has included residencies across Europe and award-winning commissions, including Gold and Best Construction at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2022.

Alex’s commitment to making runs through both his practice and his teaching. In the Prototyping Lab, he encourages students to embrace trial-and-error, learning by doing, experimenting, and discovering — the same approach that drives his sculptural work.
