Join the Stanley Kubrick Archive at UAL to celebrate the launch of Phil Coy’s new book Stereo Pair and film Organ.

Free and open to all.

The Stanley Kubrick Archive at University of the Arts London invites invites you to a film screening and panel discussion to celebrate the launch of Phil Coy’s new photobook Stereo Pair and premiere of the accompanying film Organ (both 2026). Also shown will be the recently remastered Sound Mirror (1999), together with a rare screening of the Alan Blumlein’s first stereo films courtesy of the BFI.

The screening programme is followed by an in-conversation with Lee Mackinnon, Phil Coy and Stanley Kubrick Archivist, Georgina Orgill, and a chance for guests to see and handle material from the Stanley Kubrick Archive. Signed copies of the book will be available to purchase.

Stereo Pair documents the making of the permanent site sensitive sound sculpture Stereo Pair. Both a photo-essay and user-manual, the publication makes visible the hidden narratives that ran alongside the work’s production between 2019 and 2021.

Essays by Jennifer Lucy Allen, Lee Mackinnon and Will Self explore the rich geographical and cultural context of Stereo Pair’s development, including the invention of stereo reproduction made near to its site, alongside the extraordinary history and contemporary resonance of pre-radar technology, sound mirrors and early listening devices. The book collates working drawings, maquettes, archive images, photographs, film stills and installation shots.

Organ (2026) captures a full day of available light on summer solstice 2026 as it passes over a stopped wall clock that featured in The Ludovico reception scene in Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange (1971). The clock was retrieved from The Mathematics building on Brunel University’s Brutalist style campus prior to its demolition in 2019. The clock sits on rubble salvaged from the site following the building’s demolition.

Guests will also have a unique chance to handle and view material from the making of A Clockwork Orange which relates to Coy’s work, held at the Stanley Kubrick Archive at the University Archives and Special Collections Centre.

Schedule:

  • 6pm–7pm – Film screening and panel discussion (MLG06)
  • 7pm–8pm – Drinks reception and archival handling session (Well Gallery/Archives and Special Collections Centre)
