Life Drawing at the Serpentine Pavilion

In celebration of Black History Month 2026, UAL’s Black Creatives Hub and Post-Grad Community are teaming up to host a day of life drawing sessions at the Serpentine Pavilion. 

Set within the striking architecture of the 2026 Serpentine Pavilion, attendees will have the opportunity to sketch a live model wearing their own bespoke fashion designs, created and modelled by a Black UAL student or graduate fashion designer, highlighting and celebrating Black creative voices during Black History Month.  

Whether your practice is rooted in fashion, photography, sculpture or painting, this is an opportunity to experiment with different materials, approaches and techniques. Share ideas, exchange perspectives and connect with fellow creatives from across UAL. 

Basic materials will be provided for sketching, but we encourage you to bring your own materials or artistic medium to take part.  

Please note that you can only use dry materials in the space. 

This event is open to current UAL postgraduate students. 

The Serpentine Pavilion 2026

Each summer, Serpentine invites an internationally renowned architect to create their first built structure in England. The Pavilion commission has become an international site for architectural experimentation and has presented projects by some of the world’s greatest architects. The Serpentine Pavilion 2026 is designed by Mexican studio Lanza Atelier. This year’s installation is a snaking brick-walled structure, designed to reference traditional English garden brick walls.

UAL Black History Month 2026

Black History Month (BHM) takes place in October across the UK, offering an opportunity to recognise, celebrate and share the outstanding contributions of the Black community. It's also a time for reflection and raising awareness of Black history and heritage.

At UAL, we would like to use this opportunity to raise awareness of BHM, showcase and celebrate the Black community within UAL (staff, students, alumni), highlight the support, resources and opportunities available via the Black Creatives Hub and the efforts we are making to become an anti-racist University.

From current students and staff to our talented alumni, the Black community at UAL has played a vital role in shaping both the creative industry and history as a whole. Inspired by feedback from students and staff, the Black Creatives Hub was created to address the strong desire for spaces that amplify the voices of the Black community.

Post-Grad Community

UAL’s Post-Grad Community is a space for postgraduate students to share work, find opportunities, and connect with UAL’s wider creative network. It provides a support network and gives you access to cross-College and cross-disciplinary opportunities and events.
