Join us for book readings, panel discussions and moments of connection as we come together to explore anti-racist praxis and build community

What could an anti-racist university look like, and how do we make it happen?

What would it take to build a university where everyone feels they belong, and where anti-racism shapes everyday university life?

Join us for an evening of conversation, creativity and connection exploring the experiences of Black students and how we can build more inclusive and anti-racist university communities.

Drawing on Living Black at University: Anti-Racist Praxis Beyond the Curriculum, we’ll bring students and contributors together to share perspectives, explore possibilities and imagine what meaningful change could look like across university life. From student voice and activism to belonging and creative education, we’ll consider how we can move beyond conversations and put anti-racist practice into action.

Whether you want to listen, share your experiences or explore ideas with others, this is an opportunity to connect with the UAL community and be part of a conversation about the future we want to create.

Stay afterwards for a relaxed social with light refreshments and live music.

You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to the GEMS community quilt throughout the event, celebrating 30 years of the GEMS staff network.

About the book

Living Black at University: Anti-Racist Praxis Beyond the Curriculum will be published by Manchester University Press in December 2026.
