Joseph Y. Ewusie is a guest speaker in 'Design Transforms'.

Joseph Y. Ewusie is a British-Ghanaian artist and designer whose practice explores identity, material transformation and the systems through which we understand ourselves and the world around us. Working across sculpture, collectible design and installation, his practice moves between the functional, symbolic and speculative.

Central to his work is an interest in transformation: how materials, objects and inherited systems can be broken down, reconfigured and given new meaning. His works are predominantly formed from a marble composite developed using recycled marble powder, rebirthing a material associated with permanence, monumentality and classical histories into a medium capable of taking on new forms, colours and narratives. Materiality becomes both process and metaphor, merging craft traditions with experimentation and artisan innovation.

Alongside his artistic practice, Ewusie is developing the Akwele Tanikie Foundation, an initiative dedicated to supporting emerging first-generation creatives through mentorship, community and opportunities beyond formal education.

Design Transforms is a lecture series from the Product, Ceramic and Industrial Design programme at Central Saint Martins, where expert practitioners are invited to share their thoughts on the idea of transformation examined through the lens of their work.

UAL students and staff are invited to attend in person in K101, Central Saint Martins. A livestream is available to all external guests via MS Teams.
