Introduction to Approaches in History of Art Short Course
Course description
With the emphasis on really looking and group discussion, the course is both intended as a foundation for those considering further study in this area as well for those who enjoy art and would simply like to know more. In addition to considering the significance of the themes and aesthetic qualities of the paintings in question, we will discuss changes in artistic practices, shifts in the function of art, and the impact on patronage.
Students will hopefully leave the course with a greater awareness of different art historical approaches to the subject and most importantly an increased pleasure in looking at art.
