In March, UAL Awarding Body was proud to attend the 48th Annual Conference hosted by the National Association of British Schools in Spain (NABSS), held in the beautiful coastal town of Sitges.

NABSS represents more than 80 schools across Spain, supporting over 49,000 students and 5,000 teachers, all united by a shared commitment to maintaining the high standards and global reputation of British education. The annual conference is a key moment in the calendar, bringing together educators and leaders from across the network for professional development and celebration.

This year’s conference, running from 5-8 March 2026, featured a rich programme including the annual general CPD meeting, a gala dinner, keynote speakers, and a wide range of workshops tailored to teachers and leaders across all phases of education.

It provided an invaluable space for sharing ideas, exploring new approaches, and strengthening connections within the international British schools community.

A highlight of our attendance was a session delivered by our Chief Examiners, Marc Mollica and Matt Moseley, titled “Learning Without Borders in Creative Education”.

The session explored how creative subjects can flourish when traditional boundaries - disciplinary, institutional, geographical, and even psychological - are removed. Drawing on examples from art, design, and performance, Marc and Matt shared practical strategies to help educators:

  • Foster creativity and confidence in students
  • Encourage greater student ownership of learning
  • Break down barriers between subject areas and ways of thinking.

The session was very well received, sparking meaningful conversations with educators looking to embed more creative and student-centred approaches in their teaching.

We were also pleased to highlight an important development for centres in Spain: UAL Awarding Body Level 3 qualifications are now recognised as a progression route to Spanish universities through UNEDasiss, with the support of the British Council in Spain and NABSS!

This recognition represents a significant step forward for students studying creative qualifications, opening up clearer pathways to higher education while continuing to value creative disciplines.

As we continue to grow our network in Spain, events like the NABSS Conference remain an essential opportunity for us to connect with schools and partners. The conversations we had throughout the event reinforced the strong appetite for high-quality creative education and meaningful progression routes for students.

We’re looking forward to continuing these conversations at upcoming events, including the Spain Festival of Education 2026 in Barcelona on 13 June.
