Learn how to make a feather using offcuts of textiles and fraying techniques, breathing new life into waste products.

Are you interested in using feathers in your work, but you don't want to use plastic or animal feathers?

Whilst there are many new bio-innovations in the market including Fevvers which recently collaborated with Stella McCartney, these often aren't commercially available yet.

In this session you will learn how to make a feather using offcuts of textiles and fraying techniques, breathing new life into waste products. The session will be hosted in the Materials and Products Collections at LCF Library where you can also take inspiration from other materials in the collection.

We will provide offcuts of fabric for the session. However, If you would like to use a specific fabric during the session, please make sure it is woven (preferably a plain weave) otherwise it will not work for the technique we will learn.

Suitable fabrics include: Denim, calico, canvas, silk, poplin, chambray, gauze, lawn, and voile. Or for a more structured feather, you can also use buckram.
