Screening and discussion exploring perspectives on creative practice and artistic identity from the studio to the street.

What shapes our sense of artistic identity and motivates the drive of creative practice? The contemporary painters gathered for this screening and discussion look to history, philosophy, poetry and everyday experience in search of inspiration, validation and mystery.

The short documentary film Work byMatai Sisarich(MA Fine Art: Painting) captures the everyday moments, both personal and significant, of a successful London-based artist through the perspective of an emerging artist.

Yuvraaj S Gautama (MA Fine Art: Painting) presents archetypes, a short film featuring paintings, references, films, photographs and music, along with poetry riddles and quotes.

In Shifting Grounds: Thoughts on Practice,R. A. Roslan(MA Fine Art: Painting) traces the movement from external validation to internal urgency within contemporary painting. This presentation reflects on a two-year negotiation between academic and philosophical frameworks and the singular internal drive of the artist.

This event is part of Dispersion, a celebration of practice-led research across a vibrant spectrum of material and energetic forms, hosted by MA Fine Art Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London, in the South London Gallery’s Clore Studio.

Dispersion recalls the diffusion of ideas, the dissolving of boundaries, and the interactive forces that shape art practice; not oriented towards a singular object or event but engaged in an ongoing process of transformation. At the end of fifteen months of concentrated research, the final gathering of this MA Fine Art cohort stages an experiment in dispersion via publication, performance, and participation.

Featuring a daily public programme of performances, screenings, talks and workshops, alongside artist books, essays, and zines. With work by graduating students from MA Fine Art: Computational Arts, MA Fine Art: Drawing, MA Fine Art: Painting, MA Fine Art: Printmaking, MA Fine Art: Photography, and MA Fine Art: Sculpture.

You are welcome to drop in any time to explore the work on display. Events are free to attend and open to all (18+). Explore the rest of the Dispersion programme here.
