Indigenous Creative Ecologies: with Glicéria Tupinambá and Olinda Tupinambá

This event welcomes renowned Brazilian Indigenous artists Glicéria Tupinambá and Olinda Tupinambá, whose practices unite art, ancestral knowledge, and environmental stewardship as a mode of resistance to colonial structures.

Olinda, a performance artist, filmmaker and visual artist from Bahia, uses her body as a living site where culture, territory and political agency converge. In her work she embodies the Kaapora, a forest-protecting cosmological entity, and the jaguar, as an ancestral presence affirming Indigenous existence in the face of erasure.

Glicéria, an artist, researcher and leader from Serra do Padeiro, Bahia, researches Tupinambá feather mantles held in European museums, feeding this into the collective creation of new mantles, and reimagining restitution as cultural renewal.

Both represented Brazil at the 60th Venice Biennale (2024). Now they bring their vision to CSM for a Q&A chaired by Dr Jamille Pinheiro Dias — a rare chance to hear from two artists reshaping Indigenous creative futures.
