Introduction to Clo3D and 3D Fashion Design Online Short Course

Course description

This online course provides an introduction to CLO3D, an industry-standard software. During the four weeks, you will gain a general understanding of the software and its possibilities to conceptualise your ideas. The course will provide you with be step by step demonstrations that will help you understand the software use and potential.

During the course, you will be practising how to navigate around the avatar, drape garments onto the avatar, and adjust patterns for fit and styling.

Who should attend?

Anyone interested in creating 3D garments, whether it is for physical fashion design or virtual garments for games: fashion designers, garments technicians, pattern cutters and character designers.

Course outcomes

By the end of the course, students should:
  • Have an general understanding of the interface
  • Customise the avatar
  • Arranging patterns on the avatar
  • Understanding of the sewing tool
  • Basic pattern editing in 2D and 3D
  • How to add trims like zips and buttons
  • Customise fabric colours and adding prints
  • Create a final rendered garment with 360 view

  • We like to do things the right way, that's why all of our online classes are live, you won't find any recordings here (well apart from the recording we provide in case you miss a live session)

  • Discuss topics related to your course in real time via your microphone and camera or if you're not feeling brave, in the chat box
  • Miss a class? That's ok you can catch up in a recording which is available for 2 weeks after your course runs

  • You've put the work in so we want to make sure you have something to show for it!
  • As long as you attend a minimum of 80% of your classes, we will provide you with a certificate of attendance.
  • However, we always recommend you attend all of the classes so that you get the most out of the experience!
  • Certificates are a great addition to your CV.

Materials

To take part in this online course you will need:

  • An up-to-date web browser (we recommend Chrome)
  • Microphone and headphones (a headset with a microphone function is recommended. The built-in microphone in your device would also be fine)
  • Webcam
  • Strong Internet connection - we recommend a minimum of 2 Mbps download, and 1 Mbps upload, faster if possible. You can test your network speed here - https://www.speedtest.net
  • Access to a computer with CLO3D software. There are trial versions available on the internet.
  • A three button mouse (regular mouse), track pad is not recommended as it is hard to navigate with.
