Course overview
This course will show you how to use graphic design software (Adobe CC) to turn your creative ideas into digital reality. The course focuses on the workflows and processes used by professional designers to work efficiently, and to get the best results from the digital tools.
You will explore Adobe CC Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign through a series of practical assignments, and learn when and how each should be used. The assignments include creating a logo, a poster, and a four-page brochure. At each stage you will receive personal feedback on your work from the tutor, as well as help with shortcuts and practical tips.
You will gain a better overall knowledge of design software and become much more confident in using software to create design solutions and preparing them for print or web.

Materials
- Adobe CC Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
- Black ink pen
- Sketchbook (A4 size)
- Coloured pens and pencils are useful
IMPORTANT - Adobe ID Login for Short Course Students
Students will need to create an account with Adobe (unless you already have one) in order to access the Adobe suite at the college; instructions are included below. You will need to use a personal email address to create this. If you already have an account with Adobe, please make sure you bring your login details with you on the first day of the course.
Please note:
Creating an Adobe account is freeThe software will only be accessible when logged into a UAL networked computer
The same account can be used outside of the University, but software will only be accessible through a personal paid subscription that students will need to set up independently
You can still create an account on the day but doing this beforehand will save time and avoid delays to the start of the class
If you already have an Adobe ID/ subscription you can use this on your short course rather than setting up a new account

Urjuan Toosy
Urjuan Toosy (she/her) is a freelance graphic designer, associate lecturer, and design mentor based in London. She teaches BA Graphic Design courses at Kingston School of Art, Ravensbourne University, and Richmond American University. Her portfolio includes collaborations with renowned brands such as FARFETCH, Dickies, Dr. Martens, NIKE, The North Face, Sony, and Lululemon.
Simona Knuchel
With 20 years in visual design, Simona Knuchel is renowned for her impactful storytelling. Her portfolio includes award-winning contributions to her work at Swiss Radio and Television, where her creative imprint has significantly enhanced major documentaries and current affairs programs through her thoughtful title designs, opening credits, infographics, and both 2D- and 3D animations.
Simona's versatility extends to live events and theatre, where her mesmerising projections have a significant impact. Her innovative use of digital technology immerses audiences in dynamic visual narratives, with digital projection mapping becoming her signature, breathing life into theatrical performances and adding a new dimension to event experiences.
Beyond her design career, Simona shares her knowledge as a digital design lecturer. She guides students in creating digital content for theatre and live events, where her teachings delve deeper than design principles, emphasising the profound importance of storytelling, and highlighting design's power to convey compelling narratives.
