Course description
Course overview
This course offers students an introduction to creative direction for a range of live events, from pop-ups to club nights, and the different roles and tools involved in curating an event.
Students will explore creative direction practices such as mood boarding and other practical exercises to conceptualise an event. Through group feedback and constructive critique students will aim to take their ideas further by conducting audience analysis, venue research and identifying potential collaborators.
Students will learn about managing other key elements to putting on an event, such as the programming of entertainment, production, logistics and spatial design, as we all as working to a budget and marketing pre and post event.
Who this course is for
This course is aimed at anyone interested in creative event production, from aspiring nightlife promoters to artists and designers wishing to incorporate events into their creative practice.
It’s suitable for those who have never put on an event before, as well as those with some event experience wanting to take their ideas to the next level.

Tutor
Lucy Nurnberg
Lucy Nurnberg is a spatial designer and event promoter working across nightlife, festivals and exhibition design. She is the creator of Uhaul Dyke Rescue, a collective dedicated to making space for lesbian, non-binary and trans people in the UK nightlife and festival scene. As part of this project, she designed and built a pop-up festival venue that has appeared at festivals including Mighty Hoopla, Glastonbury and Field Maneuvers as well as the V&A Museum. She also runs the Uhaul Dyke Raves, one of London’s leading queer clubnights. She holds an MA in Interior Design from the Royal College of Art.
