This Glove making workshop aims at teaching the fundamental craft skills and techniques of glove making by hand.

The students will learn about the history and symbolism of gloves through the presentation, discover different types of hand stitching, study pattern adjustment, experiment with making the trial glove and complete their own designed and made to measure pair of gloves by the end of the 5-day workshop.

Topics covered:

  • Lecture about the history of gloves
  • Introducing leather as material for glove making
  • Glove anatomy and patterns adjustments
  • Different types of edge stitching and decorative stitching
  • Glove design
  • Making a pair of hand stitched leather gloves

Outcomes:

You will learn hand stitching thin gloving leather, adjust the glove pattern, design and make your own pair of gloves made to measure that you can wear.

Who should take this course:

This course is aimed at anyone interested in learning the old and exquisite craft of making beautiful leather gloves by hand. You would ideally have some previous hand stitching experience.

Intermediate

The students should ideally have some previous hand stitching experience.

Riina Õun is a London based leather accessories designer and maker with over 10 years of experience in the craft, specializing in hand-stitched luxury leather gloves. Since 2013 Riina has worked as creative director, designer and maker for her brand Riina O.The Riina O brand´s goal is to carry on the traditional glove hand making techniques, combining them with modern technological advantages, such as CAD, machine embroidery and laser cutting. www.riinao.com
