It’s the final week of Easter School and with Rod Judkins’ Developing Your Creativity course starting today; in today’s Student Stories we look back to Summer School 2018 when we spoke with Monica Tauro who was a student on Rod’s 100 Drawing Projects.

Monica Tauro

Hi! What is your name and where are you from?

My name is Monica Tauro and I’m from Milan, Italy. I was born in Argentina; I have 2 passports! Italian and Argentinian.

What is your occupation?

I am Interior Designer. I work at Mulberry, in London, as an Interior Designer.

What course did you study on and why did you choose it?

I chose the 100 Drawing Projects course so I could continue training in my freehand drawing. I had a great experience and was able to discover so many new drawing techniques to use in my current job; it was a pleasure to meet (tutor), Rod Judkins.

What did you enjoy most about your course?

I really liked making collages. I found that the mixed technique approach we did during the course (especially collage and drawing by hand), was and continues to be a great source of inspiration.

How has this course benefited your career and personal development?

We are working on a new Mulberry boutiques project in my current job; I’m using hand drawing and after completing this course I feel more confident in my own ability.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about taking a short course at Central Saint Martins?

It is an opportunity for personal and professional improvement and growth, condensed into a short amount of time.

What do you believe is integral to the work of an artist, in any discipline?

For me, it is fundamental to find a way to express what I feel and think by myself, so that I become completely satisfied with my own work first. When I’m doing something new and I want to get a good result, I connect with my personal source of energy.

I feel stronger and more powerful when I express my creativity through my intrinsic energy. In my view, to “strengthen me” means being able to interpellate from my personal ideas, not from repetition. So I seek to concentrate, accept myself and know something more about who I am.

What 3 words best describe your short course experience at CSM?

Personality, creativity and hand sketching.

Feeling inspired by Monica’s fantastic work? You can secure a place on the next 100 Drawing Projects course right now! Rod also has three other courses which are taking bookings today for upcoming dates; Rod Judkins teaches 100 Design Projects, Contemporary Collage and Developing Your Creativity. We can’t wait to see which course you pick!
