London Trans+ Pride (LTP) is a grassroots, trans-led community organisation run by volunteers for the trans+ community. It began in 2018 as a grassroots alternative to Pride in London. Its main focus is to provide a space for transgender, non-binary, gender non-conforming, and intersex people to celebrate trans lives past, present, and future, advocate for changes to trans healthcare, and protest against transphobia.
Since 2018, LTP has organised the annual London Trans+ Pride march. The march serves as a protest advocating for equality through legislative change and improvements in education and healthcare to support trans people. In 2022, over 30,000 people attended, making it the UK's largest trans-focused gathering.
When is London Trans+ Pride this year?
London Trans+ Pride will take place on Saturday 27 July 2024. Participants are asked to gather from 1pm, with the march starting at 2pm. The event runs until approximately 5:30pm and will feature speeches and time to mingle with fellow attendees.
What’s the London Trans+ Pride 2024 route and where does it start?
The London Trans+ Pride route will begin at Langham Place. After setting off at 2pm, it will continue up to Regent Street for the first stop and then to Oxford Street/Soho for the second stop and then continue straight to Wellington Arch. The total distance of the march is 1.35 miles, with an estimated walk time of 1 hour to 90 minutes.
In previous years, the London Trans+ Pride route began at Wellington Arch. This year the route has been changed to accommodate the larger number of people expected at this year’s event. Each year, the march has doubled in size, so expect 2024's edition is expected to be even bigger and bolder than before.
How can I get involved?
Staff and students are invited to join the UAL LGBTQ+ Staff Network who have organised a meeting point for the UAL community.
The group will meet outside the Jackalope bar at 1pm, where banners and T-shirts will be provided.
Trans in the City Student Ambassador Scheme
UAL’s LGBTQ+ Staff Network have collaborated with Trans in the City, the world’s largest business organisation for trans and non-binary people, to launch their Student Ambassador Scheme. The scheme provides an opportunity for trans and non-binary students at UAL to help create safe spaces, foster community, and amplify the voices of their trans and non-binary peers. Students will also benefit from networking opportunities, mentorship schemes, and exclusive events such as insight days. Students may apply to the scheme throughout the year.
LCC MA Interaction Design graduate Sagar Bhat worked with the Trans in the City team to design the logo and identity of the scheme. Sagar had this to say on his contribution to the scheme:
“As a proud ally, I believe in showing up and contributing by utilizing one's skills and talents. Schemes like Trans and City are important because they provide opportunities for fresh talent to flourish. I am glad to be part of crafting the identity for the ambassador program because it does more than just create a safe space—it cultivates a culture of community. These programs empower by fostering inclusivity and diversity and create a supportive environment where all students can thrive and succeed.”
Sagar also featured in a recent Trans in the City podcast where he discussed his experience in greater detail.
Support for our trans and non-binary community:
To make UAL a safe and supportive environment for all, we are continually working with our LGBTQ+ community and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion team to ensure our guidance and policies support our students and staff.
