The Bill of Health

The Bill of Health is an open call exhibition that aims to capture a snapshot of health, illness, disability and care in 2023.
The purpose of the show is to move beyond the stereotypes and explore what it means to be a disabled, neurodiverse or sick artist or carer in an often ableist art world. This exhibition is an opportunity to have a conversation.
We invite participants to investigate their own lived experience, query ideologies in relation to health, imagine alternative futures and/or respond to the present reality. In a political landscape that equates ‘value’ with economic productivity – what does that mean if you are sick? How can we think about value in different ways?
We want to represent a wide range of views and experiences.
The Bill of Health exhibition will be accompanied by a programme of events across Central Saint Martins museums, library and student union which will provide opportunities for participants to explore this topic, network and support one another.
The exhibition will be held in the Central Saint Martins Window Galleries 26 October – 21 November 2023, coinciding with Disability History Month.
How to Apply
The Bill of Health is hosted by MA Art & Science student Lucy Chapman, inspired by her own experience of chronic illness, and features SICK magazine.
Participants are welcome to contribute work in a variety of media. We welcome submissions from staff, students and alumni who identify as disabled, neurodiverse, chronically ill, people with caring responsibilities and those working in healthcare, activism, social engagement and health equality – and anyone who uses the NHS.
