All UAL staff, students and alumni are invited to help create a visual exhibition on their experiences of being mothers, fathers and parents whilst at University. The outcome will be displayed in the Window Galleries at Central Saint Martins in Spring 2023.

The display is being curated by BA Graphic Communication Design students Jasmijn Toffano and Ruby Gamman, with support from CSM Graphic Communication Design staff. Jasmijn and Ruby say 'there is a need to redesign ALL environments, policies, norms, practice and belief systems so parents and children can thrive. Ultimately breastfeeding and parenting have a role to play in sustainable world making and this expo aims to speak to everyone about this fact. In addition, a 10 point Manifesto for Change generated by Dr. Sally Sutherland of Brighton University, whose PhD focussed on these issues, will also be included in the expo. It aims to indicate why we all have a role to play in “Baby Change-making”'.

How to submit your work

Please submit work about your experiences or ideas of pregnancy, motherhood, fatherhood and parenting at UAL, and why this has been positive, difficult, funny or worth review. Participants are welcome to contribute work in a variety of mediums, including:

  • Posters
  • Animations
  • Films
  • Textiles
  • Ceramics
  • Art objects
  • ... And more!

The curators hope to gather visual content covering a broad range of experiences from staff and students who also have caring responsibilities. The aim is to make us laugh and grimace about the trials and tribulations of parenting at UAL, whilst sharing strong ideas about how to improve the lives of parents.
