Lime Grove Library Wellbeing Space: Vinyl Listening Collection

Vinyl Listening Collection

Installed to compliment the Black History Month Heritage & History Exhibition, this is the first ever vinyl listening collection within UAL Libraries and was curated in collaboration with Chris and Duke Price of Peckings Records, Shepherds Bush.

Students can browse our record collection and enjoy listening to some amazing artists and sounds from the last 50 years through to the present day on the headphones provided or connect their own. Some of the artists chosen have a connection to the heritage of this area of London and UAL, too.

Vinyl records were popular from the 1950s to the 1980s but were superseded largely by Compact Discs (CDs) and, more recently, digital streaming. They have seen a huge resurgence in popularity since around 2007, and fans cite the unique tactile nature of the format alongside the visual impact of the full-scale artwork for its popularity. Vinyl LPs are a unique listening experience, and we aim to inspire students with creative ideas through the unique artwork and listening experience the new collection provides.
