How your feedback shaped the new LCF Library

Last year, we invited you to tell us what you thought of the brand new LCF Library — and you delivered. Through QR code desk surveys and themed engagement displays, you shared what you loved, what wasn’t working, and what you wanted the space to feel like.

We listened. And now we’re excited to show you what’s changed.

How we collected your feedback

We placed surveys on desks across the library, making it quick and easy to scan, comment, and send feedback straight to us. We also know many of you prefer tactile, creative ways to engage, so we ran a series of themed displays designed to spark conversation and encourage interaction.

Thanks to your input, clear themes emerged — and two stood out more than anything else.

1. Lighting: “Some spaces feel too dark.”

One of the most common concerns was that parts of the library felt dim, especially around the book stacks. So we made some big changes:

  • Bookshelves were moved closer to the windows, letting natural daylight brighten the space
  • Shelftop lights were added, improving visibility throughout all stack areas

These updates mean it’s now easier to browse, work, and find what you need without straining your eyes.

2. Look & Feel: “The space feels too corporate.”

You asked for a warmer, more creative environment — and we agreed.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Artwork now brightens the Quiet Study Room
  • New soft seating and movable study pedestals create a comfortable, flexible study zone
  • Book displays and visual touches have been added throughout the library
  • Clear, welcoming signage makes the space easier to navigate

Students have already been spending more time in the revamped Quiet Study Room, and it’s quickly become one of the best-used areas in the building.

Creativity and Community: Building spaces with you

LCF has made building community a priority in the new campus, and the library is no exception. We run regular creative drop-in sessions, especially for students on business, management, and other courses that may not have as much access to making spaces.

Students told us they love having opportunities to be creative in a low-pressure, social environment — so we’ve kept these sessions going. Some of your creations have even become part of the library environment, including:

  • Decorations on plant pots
  • Student-made pieces in our displays

It’s your space — so having your work in it just makes sense.

Materials Area: Bigger, Brighter, Better

During the summer break, we expanded the Materials Area based directly on your feedback. There’s now:

  • More space to sit and work
  • Room for additional materials displays
  • Capacity to introduce a wider range of items

This was one of the biggest requests we heard, and we’re excited to keep improving it.

Your Feedback = Real Change

Every improvement we made came from you:

  • You told us what felt dark — we made it lighter
  • You said it felt corporate — we made it creative
  • You wanted more community — we made spaces to bring people together
  • You asked for more materials — we expanded the area and added displays

And we’re not finished. Your thoughts shape what we build next.

Keep the feedback coming

This is your library. Whether it’s about study spaces, wellbeing, creativity, or community, we want to hear what you think so we can keep improving.
