On 23 June, LCC library zine collection was invited to take part in the Queer and Now festival 2018 at Tate Britain.

Curated by E-J Scott with Tate’s Learning teams and in partnership with Pride in London, UK Black Pride, Regard and Trans Pride Brighton, and with artists, cultural producers, commentators, activists, supporters and Tate’s own LGBTQ+ staff network, Queer and Now places queer culture at the heart of the gallery. People of all ages and identities are invited to a day of live performances, talks, family tours, workshops, music, film and dance from artists rooted in the UK’s queer community.

Ruth Collingwood was invited to help run a queer zine making workshop as part of the day, taking along a selection of LGBTQ+ zines from the collection which were displayed alongside LGBTQ+ zines from Tate library and archives. Attendees were able to browse the collections, and then to create their own zine using photographs, images and text from photocopies taken from library and archives. They were also invited to add their zines to Tate’s collection. This was a great opportunity to promote our collection to the public, in particular to those interested in LGBTQ+ identity and history.
