Biography

I am a Reader at the Creative Computing Institute at the University of the Arts London in Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, and Dance and Technologies. I am a choreographer, a dancer, and a Laban Movement Analyst. I practice artistic research and practice-based research, intersecting the design of interactive systems and dance-making and choreography.

Before my current position, I was an assistant and then associate professor at LISN-Université Paris Saclay and Ex-Situ INRIA research team. Before that, I was a researcher at the School of Interactive Arts+Technology at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, within the MovingStories project. I hold a PhD in Art and Science from the University Paris-Sud 11 and the IRCAM-Centre Pompidou and LIMSI-CNRS research institutes. I have an MSc from the University of Joseph Fourier and an Engineering Degree from ENSIMAG in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, and about 30 years of training in ballet and contemporary dance.

I am one of the leading figures in Human-Computer Interaction who is working on dance and body-based arts. As an established HCI researcher, choreographer, dance practitioner, and Laban Movement Analyst, my research has contributed to the foundations of the burgeoning field of Movement Computing. My work has inspired and transformed the practices of creative professionals and shaped the research landscapes in embodied computing and dance technology design. I have initiated many artistic research projects, collaborating with dancers, visual artists, computer scientists, and designers to create interactive dance performances and interactive installations, as well as systems for supporting choreography, dance learning, documentation, and archiving.
