Biography

Rosie Hornbuckle is Reader in Design (Associate Professor) and co-founder of the Complex Collaborations Design Research Hub at University of the Arts London (UAL).

Rosie has developed her practice through enacting translational design approaches, often by developing visual and tactile tools and methods, within the context of large consortia sustainable and social innovation projects which present ‘complex collaborations’ through transdisciplinary partnerships. Research projects and proposals Rosie has worked on include circular textiles, bioeconomy, food systems, healthcare, resilience, circular systems for human hair, and local refill services.

Rosie’s is interested in alternative pathways for future design practice and her research involves developing theoretical frameworks and methodological innovations for collaborative work through ethnographic and autoethnographic analyses. Rosie’s published work includes Design Materials and Making for Social Change published by Routledge.

I'm interested in supervising PhD researchers who are interested in socially-engaged and systemic design practices, collaboration in complex contexts, and exploratory methodologies in topics relating to health, sustainability, social and/or material innovation.
