Site development at Wimbledon

Starting summer 2020, Wimbledon College of Arts will undergo site development work as part of a multimillion pound investment programme, due for completion in summer 2022.

The work will enable us to create an integrated performance environment. The aim is to facilitate more collaboration between our design, acting, technical arts and performance courses and build a stronger student community.

The redevelopment of the site, which is subject to planning permission, will deliver the following improvements:

  • Updating the theatre and green screen facilities
  • Refurbishment of the current design studios
  • The creation of a new digital performance studio
  • A refurbished main reception
  • Improving the front of the main college buildings
  • Adding more greenery to the external landscaping

In addition to improving the student experience and creating a more positive and attractive presence for our students, staff, visitors and neighbours, the planned site developments are also an opportunity to create a more environmentally friendly college. This will be achieved through measures such as better insulation, improving energy efficiency in fixtures and looking at using modern, sustainable materials.

The first phase of work is due to start in June 2020, after the undergraduate Summer Show.

The college will be open as usual during these developments, with most work completed in phases during the summer months in order to minimise the disruption to students and general public.
