Central Saint Martins

The Sustainability Alumni Network recently held its second talk in the Sustainable Horizons series. The talks allow creative graduates from University of the Arts London to share their knowledge on sustainability within their field.

We heard from Constance Jeffreys (MDes International Fashion Production Management, London College of Fashion, 2016); Hanna Whiteman (BA Textile Design, Central Saint Martins, 2023); and Lukas Kroulik (MA Fashion Photography, LCF, 2009), who all delivered brilliant talks about their own practices.

Constance introduced Knowledge Exchange at the UAL Centre for Sustainable Fashion; Hanna talked us through her graduate project, Envero, which delves into regenerative design and establishing closer connections with rural agriculture and luxury textile production; and, finally, Lukas took us on a journey into climate awareness in art, sharing with us his most recent artistic projects, which are 100% sustainable.

At the end, Katie Kubrak, the network’s President, led a panel discussion where they all discussed issues around climate and social justice and best sustainable artistic practices.

Thank you to everyone who attended and took part. If you’d like to be involved in any future events, please get in touch: sustainabilityalumni@arts.ac.uk

Constance Jeffreys

Constance Jeffreys works as part of the Knowledge Exchange team at the Centre of Sustainable Fashion, collaborating with educators, researchers, and the fashion industry to pursue alternative practices and systems that create a more just and equitable environment. She takes an intersectional and anthropological approach to co-create meaningful projects within sustainability, with some of the biggest high street and luxury brands. Since entering the industry Constance has worked in Copenhagen with a wide variety of companies including iconic Danish brands such as Soulland and Copenhagen Fashion Week. In 2020 Constance was named a new gen voice at the Copenhagen Fashion Summit due to her work in the field and having previously contributed to the summit in 2016 and 2017. Currently she is working at the CSF delivering circular and sustainability projects within the Fashion and Jewellery industries, as well as working within the center to create spaces for sustainability discourse and knowledge exchange.

Hanna Whiteman

Hanna is a climate-conscious textile print designer, based in London, who is focused on the new and essential field of sustainable textile print. She is driven to find solutions using new technological approaches for the textile industry’s impact.

Her research stems from her Biophilia - a love of nature, which is present in her prints. Her process includes growing, collecting, observing, and documenting plants and flowers to harness an organic and graphic expression. She finds herself always returning to nature, a timely reminder of the need to design with sustainability as the core goal.

She is currently working as a freelance Textile Print Designer and developing workshops with other BA Fashion Design courses to promote and teach Sustainable Print. Her graduate project, Envero, was shortlisted Green Trail Award, Maison/0 sponsored by LVMH.

Previous experience includes Project Manager & Head of Sales at Phoebe English, the fashion brand that has pioneered sustainability.
