BA (Hons) Fashion Photography alumnus Matjaz Tancic has been named as the winner of the 3D category at the annual Sony World Photography Awards. The awards recognise a photographer’s ability to capture a truly unique moment in a single shot.

Matjaz began to explore 3D photography after a friend introduced him to the concept around the time of his final major project at LCF. His drive and determination won him the support of his tutors and took him to China where his winning image, Timekeeper was shot.

Timekeeper shows an old widow in a Hui-style living room inside an old village house of Yixian, Central China. The 3D element allows for a more realistic experience of the story behind the image, which will be debuted in London. Originally, the image was shot for a Chinese photo festival, however the festival had to be cancelled last minute.

“I am really glad that this photo will debut in London, where I started with my 3D photography,” Matjaz, who currently divides his time between Beijing and Ljubljana, says. A leading 3D Fashion Photographer, Matjaz has worked with publications such as Vogue China, L Officiel and Mercedes Benz Magazine.

Matjaz will be flown to London to attend the Sony World Photography Awards Gala Ceremony on 25 April, where he will receive the latest 3D photography equipment from Sony. Timekeeper will be shown as part of the 2013 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House from 26 April – 12 May.
