UAL graduates win big at the British Fashion Council’s Fashion Awards 2023

We’re delighted to announce that University of the Arts London alumni won 8 of the 15 awards at the British Council’s Fashion Awards 2023. Graduates from 3 of our colleges, Camberwell College of Arts, Central Saint Martins and London College of Fashion won awards, including Designer of the Year.
The winners:
- Campbell Addy - Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator
- Jonathan Anderson for JW Anderson and Loewe - Designer of the Year
- Sarah Burton - Special Recognition Award
- Joe Casely-Hayford - Posthumous Special Recognition Award
- Maximilian Davis for Ferragamo - British Womenswear Designer of the Year
- Conner Ives - BFC Foundation Award
- Chopova Lowena - New Establishment – Womenswear
- Martine Rose for Martine Rose - British Menswear Designer of the Year
Photographer and filmmaker Campbell Addy won the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator winner. Campbell graduated from BA Fashion Communication: Fashion Communication and Promotion, CSM in 2016
Fellow CSM graduates Sarah Burton and Conner Ives received the Special Recognition Award and BFC Foundation Award respectively. This year marks 30 years of BFC NEWGEN initiative, which supports the best emerging fashion design talent. In honour of the anniversary, this year’s award recognised a current BFC NEWGEN recipient. Sarah graduated in 1996, whilst Conner graduated in 2020.
Chopova Lowena received the New Establishment – Womenswear award; Emma Chopova received both her BA and MA in Womenswear Fashion from CSM.
Charlie Casely-Hayford accepted the posthumous Special Recognition Award on behalf his late father, Joe Casely-Hayford, who studied at CSM in the 1970s.
Camberwell graduate Martine Rose won the British Menswear Designer of the Year for her eponymous brand Martine Rose. The award is given to a leading British menswear designer who consistently makes a global impact with their innovative and creative designs, shaping the growing international menswear landscape.
LCF graduate Jonathan Anderson won the coveted Designer of the Year. It was recognition for his work with both JW Anderson and as Creative Director of Spanish fashion house Loewe.
Rising designer Maximilian Davis won the British Womenswear Designer of the Year. Maximilian is the Creative Director for Ferragamo. He graduated from BA Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear, LCF in 2017.
The ceremony took place at the start of December 2023, in the iconic Royal Albert Hall.
