UAL has moved up 5 places to number 38 in the Complete University Guide 2023, out of a total of 130 institutions. Since 2018, UAL has climbed 45 places in the Guide.

Our position in the top 40 UK universities also places us 6th amongst London universities and has cemented our spot at the top in terms of specialist arts institutions. The metrics which contributed to our score include strong performances in the areas of research quality – where we scored 80%, our student to staff ratio and degree completion.

About the Guide

The Complete University Guide is a widely cited online ranking of 130 UK universities in 1 main table, plus 70 individual subject tables to help students compare courses at different universities.

The main table is based on 10 measures: student satisfaction, research quality, research intensity, entry standards, student/staff ratio; spending on academic services; spending on student facilities; good honours degrees; graduate prospects and completion.

We are delighted to be the leading specialist art and design institution and ranked in the top 40 for all UK universities. It speaks to the wider recognition of the high-quality creative education that we offer to our students, as well as our research addressing inequality, climate crisis and building communities. Congratulations to all who have played a part in achieving this position.
