After a decade at the helm of Central Saint Martins, Professor Jeremy Till will step down as Pro Vice-Chancellor of UAL and Head of College in September 2022.
Jeremy will remain at UAL part-time as Professor of Architecture, conducting PhD supervision and teaching, as well as continuing his research. The latter includes leading UAL’s research collaboration with the Technical University of Braunschweig investigating where architectural practice might turn in the face of the climate emergency. This is funded by AHRC and the German Research Council.
Jeremy joined UAL in 2012 as Head of College for Central Saint Martins, then added Pro Vice-Chancellor Research to his responsibilities. He was Curator of the British Pavilion in the Shenzhen Biennale 2013 and the London Pavilion at the Shanghai Urban Biennale 2017, leading a team from Central Saint Martins at both events. Appointed University lead for climate emergency in 2019, he worked with others to steer UAL’s commitment to reach Net Zero by 2040.
Jeremy Till said:
“I feel so fortunate to have spent the best years of my career in Central Saint Martins’ extraordinary creative community, and am proud to have played a role with others in bringing climate justice to the fore at UAL.”
Roni Brown, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education of UAL, said:
“Jeremy is a visionary thinker, teacher and practitioner and he has nurtured a criticality in creative education that makes Central Saint Martins an inspirational place for learning and taking action on themes that matter.”
James Purnell, President & Vice-Chancellor of UAL, said:
“Jeremy has ensured that the social and political contribution of creativity has become a core part of UAL’s thinking. We are thrilled to continue our association with Jeremy as a defining voice on architecture, culture and climate.”
The search for the new Head of Central Saint Martins will start in March. Executive responsibility for the climate action portfolio will be confirmed later in the year.
