Students in a Presessional Academic English classroom

Presessional Academic English Programme

If you have an offer to study at UAL and need to improve and develop your English language skills, you can apply to study Presessional English before you start your main course.

Presessional courses prepare you for your main UAL degree course. You will improve your English in London, experience academic life at UAL and learn about British culture.

Our Presessional English courses are accredited by the British Council and BALEAP. They are designed to help you to progress onto your main course of study at UAL, once you have successfully passed all of your Presessional assessments.

Please note that applications for 2019 Presessional courses will be opened mid-January 2019.

There are different types of Presessional course depending on how much English language preparation you need. Find out which course is right for you below.

Before you apply

To apply for a place on a Presessional English course, there are a number of steps you must take in the following order:

  1. Look at the language Entry Requirements section of each of the course information pages below to find out which course is right for you.
  2. Accept your UAL main course offer via your UAL online portal (if you have made applications for several courses at UAL, you will need to have a clear idea of which course you intend to study before applying for Presessional).
  3. If you will be under the age of 18 at the beginning of your Presessional course, you will need to submit a completed Parental Consent Form (PDF 129KB) before applying. We cannot process your application until we receive this. For full guidance about what else you need in addition to your application, please refer to our FAQ document.

Places on Presessional courses are limited and fill up quickly, so you should apply as early as possible - don't wait until the application deadline.

Submitting an application does not mean you have booked a place. We will let you know by email whether you have a place.

Please make sure you read and understand our application guidance documents as you prepare your application:
