BA Graphic Design second years have spent the last few weeks imagining what it would be like to be on a hybrid Fashion and Graphic Design course. The project culminated in a fashion show which they named Zip File.
Students designed and made items of clothing combining the aesthetics of graphic design with the techniques of fashion design. The fashion show took place in the Crypt under St Giles Church in Camberwell last Thursday. We asked Graphic Design senior lecture Robert Sollis about the inspiration for his brief:
‘As Camberwell doesn’t have a Fashion Design course we thought it would be interesting to speculate on how we could bring fashion to the college. This is the first time Graphics students have experimented with Fashion.’
Viewers were amazed by garments of all shapes and sizes with an eclectic mix of thread and ink. Here are some of the pieces ready to unzip.
