Anthi Evangelou tells us about the final countdown to the MA Visual Arts Summer Show and shares images of her Camberwell Instagram takeover from last week! Anthi’s images below are of her peers on her course, MA Fine Art Digital, as they prepare to show for the final time at Camberwell.
Countdowns…have you ever caught yourself counting down the days to the weekend? For an amazing getaway that you’ve been planning for months in advance? What happens when you realise that you’re only a few weeks away from the final degree show of your MA? Well, at that point you convince yourself to stop messing around and instead, you do your work in double or even triple speed to finalise your grand piece.
You realise, in a really odd but also in a rather magical way, that time slips by right in font of your eyes. You pause for a minute to see what time it is and you wish, oh you wish, that you’d started a week before; you get angry at yourself! Then, you take another sip of your coffee and boom! You continue working at the speed of light! Finally the install week arrives! Personally these days are my all-time favourite of the MA course…well OK, the Low Residency days as well – obviously.
As the days go by, the previously empty spaces at Wilson Road are starting to transform into spaces of collaboration, cooperation, and into spaces of social happening. Drilling sounds, buckets full of white paint, large piles of bubble wrap, colours, artworks scattered on the floors, people chatting, worried tensed looks, cries, laughs…and within this endless sea of emotions, you realise how lucky you are to be surrounded by all these beautiful people. Between all these creative and supportive friends, they are always there to help you finalise a video, or help you mount a canvas or even give you a solution for a last minute problem that occurred. The setting up date is now over and we have already started counting down the days and hours of the highlight event – the Degree Show Opening of course!
Come and see Anthi’s, her peers and all of MA Visual Arts Summer Show beginning with Private View, Thursday 14 July.
