Biography
Stella Capes uses a variety of media including video, performance, photography and sculpture, to create situations that explore the human desire to articulate.
Utilising the language of these media Capes synchronises their formal relations as a way to achieve greater clarity, with the inherent limitations of such attempts playing a central role in her work.
Capes’ most recent video project featured a sequence of translations, where one material or form of expression attempts to respond to another describing form through voice or sound though gesture, striving to attain some sort of common ground.
Capes’ work is regularly exhibited in the UK and internationally, featuring at galleries such as the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA, London), Kunsthalle Fribourg (Switzerland), IKON (Birmingham), Art Pavilion (Zagreb), Whitechapel Art Gallery (London) and Site Gallery (Sheffield).
