Luise  Vormittag

Biography

Luise Vormittag is an illustrator, designer, writer and researcher and is Reader in Illustration at Camberwell College of Arts. Her practice-led research focuses on the nexus of image-making, community, and place.  Another strand of her practice is to deliver creative projects in healthcare environments. She often collaborates with community groups on projects that articulate and visualise their joint concerns and perspectives.

She is currently working on a collaborative research project with Dr Stephanie Black (Kingston School of Art) called Colouring In, that examines the impact of illustration on areas of critical importance to global debates.

Vormittag has extensive teaching experience. Before joining Camberwell, she taught on the Graphic Communication Design Programme at Central Saint Martins. She regularly presents her research at conferences and events.

Her writing has been published in the Journal of Illustration and is a regular contributor to Varoom magazine, the UK’s leading illustration magazine. At Camberwell, she contributes to the Illustration programme in a variety roles.

Before becoming an academic, Vormittag worked as a commercial illustrator completing commissions for a range of national and international clients.
